Cycling from Mythen to Sacheln in Switzerland

Read about my previous day experience of hiking in Swiss Alps in Part 2: Hike to Mt. Mythen

We came back from early morning hike from Mt. Mythen down to our base at Holzeg and had some energy bars. We quickly packed our bags and got ready to cycle. It was a complete downwards cycling that day which is my favorite thing, lolz some relaxing time to my legs.

I think, you might be able to relate, why cycling? This is the beauty of Swiss that you can take cycles anywhere and they have dedicated cycle routes and yes cars are not allowed on these routes. You can see a top view of where we were going on the downhill.

We planned this our route to reach Sacheln by the evening. This is the part of Alps where not many tourist goes, mostly enjoyed by locals. That's why I made you a terrain view of this place. Have a look.

We were heading downhill, but also were taking utmost care of brakes and controlling the speed. I remember, I was damn excited about speeding the cycle but then Henry reminded me that, we are on cycle not on a motorcycle and those break will not make me stop easily hence sooner than later things could go out of control so ride carefully.

I remember this was one part where that cycle seat was hitting my balls badly. I am not a cyclist and most of time I ride motorcycle. These are stuff you learn. No gain without pain!  ha ha ha ...

You can see the beautiful Alps hidden in clouds and also our cycle route, no cars, its complete empty.

Aha.. and there it was, Brunnen! Henry showed me the lake where we were supposed to catch a boat. "It doesn't matter which route you take just ride towards the lake that's it. Till then you enjoy the town of Schwyz.", Henri told me. Trust me these name sound really different when they are pronounced in German. But I had an advantage since Henry knows German. I didn't have to think much. But if you have no idea where to go, Google map is your god, trust him. ;-)

A close look on town Brunnen

This is how the cycle routes are. They are small and they are all over Swiss.

We came to town to Schwyz and back into the civilization. Schwyz is a very beautiful town. Everyone would love to have a dream house at this place and if you see each house and their design, you'll see they have installed solar panel on each rooftop. These are environment friendly settlements. They don't harm environment and also in Swiss you have to pay for your Garbage. People are very cautious about it.

Schwyz is a nice beautiful and old kind of Swiss town. I didn't know much history about it but frankly I was just enjoying the town. Just witnessing and experiencing the things as we went. You can see the mountain at the back which we came down was totally into clouds now and this old town at the base below. Nice combination!

English is not much supported language here. Mostly it's German, even the sign boards, which I really felt good. Back in India we treat people as uneducated if you don't know. This is what we learn while travelling. We should respect people beyond language. It is not necessary to be proficient in English. The rest of the world respect their own language first. Even in most countries in Europe and place like this, English is not given much important It's just a language.

Anyway we continued toward the lake Brunnen, suddenly our tummy were making loud noises. Not getting into much details, I would say, the best way during cycling get some Cheese and some Swiss chocolates. It is nice way to recharge yourself and also keep your bags light weight.

Now the roads were really smooth and my balls were safe. :D
This is one good thing about these roads and that is why you cycle long distance without much struggle.

We reached Brunnen right on time. We still had some 15 mins in hand so filled our bags with little more food. Once we cross to the other end, uphill climb will start again. We had 45 mins of boat ride with the amazing view. We parked our cycles down and came out on the deck. The climate was pleasant as it was mid of July, the summer season in Swiss..

The top view of our route which the boat took. It took one halt at Gersau, another beautiful down. We couldn't halt there but looked amazing from boat. These mountains are all heaven for Hikers and trekkers. You might not see these on map but you will get an idea below image.

The town of Gersau which I mentioned early.

Now we were back on the road again. The weather whole day was bit cloudy but trust me it was good otherwise it would have been too hot to ride.

This part of the country where we were riding was absoultely like a countryside of Swiss. Most of the residents were farmers. We could see many farms and milk products and many other stuff. We also took a small break at one of farm for ice-cream.

Traditional wooden houses. Those are actually milk or cheese processing houses. In DDLJ, SRK and Kajol were dancing inside such house but reality its smells like hell inside. oh poor they! Ha Ha Ha..

Time to grab some ice-cream again. These are the processing plant and you can buy stuff directly and it's totally cheap.

After having some relax time, we head back on the road again, back to wilderness. We took some fun pictures. They were not a tourist places, were absolutely empty.

After a lot of riding, Henry asked me if we can deroute a little. He showed the map where we can do little off road. I was always open to all his options until and unless my body supports. I told him, "I am not a pro cyclist. I don't know if I could do this stuff. You just gave me two months for practice So you decide." He then suggested to take the deroute, so we did. You guys should see my tummy. You will never see me as cyclist again. hahaha. But now I confident that you all can do this too.

Then again little more of riding, we were back on the road after deroute. The climate was getting nice and clear after two days of heavy rain, it wasn't much of hot as well.

This is how country side of Swiss look. It is actually all farms, cows and bells. After a while we passed this wooden bridge. This is one of the highest wooden bridge in entire Europe. It was indeed much deeper. You might find lot of such old bridges across Swiss and Europe but this one is the highest and its still in function. You can't see the base but it was really deep

Finally it was almost 6 in the evening and time to find our stay. We took a hotel as we wanted time to take shower after 2 days. :P

Normally I never give much importance to comfort zones, like avoiding lavish hotels. What's the point coming to a place if you want to spend your time in hotel? We only took hotel where we thought it time a to take shower, washing clothes and charge our gadgets.

Henry giving some nice pose. Trust me he is pro cyclist. I guess if he would have done this tour much faster if riding alone. But yeah, we were having some good time out there.

Finally we reached Sacheln around 5 pm. It was time to rest in hotel and have some nice soup.

We parked our cycles in hotel lobby for a night. We got fresh and came down to eat something, relaxed ourselves watching sun setting down at the horizon

Meanwhile Henry was finalizing out routes for next day.It was going to be the big and tough day as we have to cycle uphill and then to climb to Dossen hut. Dossen hut was going to be the tough hike since its one of highest Alps peak and almost at the top. Henry planned to stay there at the top.

A beautiful fur ball came to us when we were having soup. She was so lovely that I thought to put her in my bag.

So this how things ended at Sacheln. At this point my body was still better. Henry was keeping a check on me if I'm ok. Yeah way to go...............

Next day we will be riding and climbing toughest challenge.. I planned to take a nice nap and get ready for it.
